Reassigned in 1572 to the Confraternity of the Holy Spirit of the Neapolitans and inaugurated in 1574, Santo Spirito dei Napoletani served for centuries as the national church of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Closed for roughly thirty years in the mid-to-late 20th century, it was restored and reopened for worship in 1986.
