Founded in 1688 as an oratory serving the adjoining Ospedale di Santo Spirito, Santa Maria Annunziata in Borgo was dismantled in 1940 to make way for the Via della Conciliazione and rebuilt identically at its present riverside site, reopening during the 1950 Holy Year. Sitting partly sunken along the embankment, it is easy to miss — locals call it the Annunziatina.
