Santa Brigida functions as the informal Swedish national church in Rome and remains the spiritual home of the Bridgettine Order. Its custodianship passed through an unusually varied succession of owners — from the Diocese of Uppsala to Roman canons to a French congregation to Polish Carmelites — before reaching the Bridgettine Sisters in 1930.
